Calypso

Seagulls behind ship There is also a history behind the name Calypso. As presented in Greek Mythology, Calypso was a Nymph, daughter of Atlas. In Homer's Odyssey she accepted Odysseus on her island (Ogygia) and kept him for seven years, offering him immortality if he would stay with her. However, Odysseus was homesick (nostos) and longed to return to his island, Ithaki. At the command of Zeus, Calypso helped Odysseus to build a raft so that he could continue his journey back home.
