Hydra |
![]() Hydra is probably the most traditional island, close to Piraeus (Athens), in the Saronic Gulf, since it is only 1+1/2 hours away by boat. It is a beautiful island without cars but full of yachts since it is frequented by the global jet set. It has managed to keep its local colour throughout the later years and has one of the most picturesque ports in Greece. Hydra has a long naval tradition, along with a Naval School and during the Greek Revolution against the Turks (1821) all the boats (more than 140) where used for the purposes of the Revolution in collaboration with the boats from the neighbouring island of Spetses. The following places are worth visiting while you are on the island: Port - The port is your entry point and the main attraction on the island. Most of the things are there, waiting for you to discover them. Kaminia - A small and beautiful fish village that you can visit on foot, taking the coastal footpath from the right side facing Port. |
