Andros


General information about Andros

Andros is a very beautiful and green island of the northern Cyclades, renowned for the beautiful beaches, the water sources of Sariza, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the almond sweets (amygdalota).

The most famous shipping families come from Andros and the island used to be a great naval power in the past. Sea commerce used to be the main source of income for most of its inhabitants. The people of Andros pay homage to this tradition with the statue of the Unknown Sailor (Afanis Naftis) gazing at the Aegean sea in the seaside plateau of the main city (Hora). The most important places worth visiting in Andros are the following:

Hora - A picturesque village where the aristocratic atmosphere of the island is blended with the tradition and the modern influences of MoMA.

Batsi - The most touristy village and port and the main attraction of the island.

Beaches - The most beautiful beaches are Korthi, 'Tis Grias to Pidima', Yalia, Vitali and Achla.
